BUT...a clue? I noticed on big/big, when I back-pedal, within a few crank turns, the REAR goes to the 3rd largest cog (ie shifts over two cogs). The drivetrain does NOT seem to like the sideways deflection from cross chaining. I get that but this did NOT happen before.
Any ideas?
Put it in the trainer and get it to skip by riding the brake and pedaling while watching. How old is the cassette?
I just lost my Sram power Dome Ti cassette this last spring from riding it on the trainer with an undiagnosed worn chain. Worked fine until the first outdoor ride almost put me over the bars.
