It was 2002. I was in the midst of my divorce from my first husband and was in the process of creating my own identity. I was also fairly new to the internet and forums so I figured there was no time like then to come up with a username that was "me".
I'm part Serbian and I really like cats so I looked up the Serbo-Croatian word for "cat": mačka
That was perfect! And it uses parts of my real name.
The č is pronounced ch like church, so it became Machka pronounced much like Match-ka.
I've been Machka for 17 years now.
