Back when I started taking the bus, I had a form of "real time" location notification. My apartment was on a dead end road. So, in the morning, I'd sit in my kitchen drinking coffee. When I looked out my window and saw the bus drive by, I knew it was time to get to the bus stop.
By the time I'd left my apt and walked the 100 ft to the bus stop, the bus would have reached the end of the street, turned around, and be headed for my bus stop.
There is something to be said for low tech
