At first, I only went SPDs on the tandem and Looks on my other bikes but after getting to a ride a couple times with the wrong shoes me me decide to go SPD on everything. A six years ago, I lost a lot of weight and was riding with a pretty fast group and wanting to be one of the boys, caved in and bought a set of Look pedals and shoes. I did notice that it felt like I had more power but my average speeds indicated no change. By the end of the Summer, I went back to SPDs and sold the Looks. Convenience overruled.
One thing I do actually like about the Look cleats I've got now is that they are zero float. I don't really notice it on the road bike, but I love how they feel on the fixed gear. Feels like a very solid connection to the bike.
