Flip Flop safe?

I expected a Flip Flop hub to have a narrow strip of 1.37x24 with provision for a lock ring on one side.
The other side having only a wider strip of 1.37x24 and no lock ring provision.
I've researched and found pictures of exactly this setup.

My Dura Ace rear HB-7710 hub has 1.37x24 and lock ring on both sides.

Obviously it is designed to accept a cog on both sides, is this still safe & OK for freewheel installation?
For example, I don't wish to damage the LH threads with the freewheel.
