The bad news is that this time of year, the big temp and (importantly) humidity changes can affect how a given grind fineness will pull. I can go the whole winter, with low relative humidity in the house, making only occasional, small adjustments. Not so right now.
Fortunately, espresso technology has advanced far beyond what was available back in Private Ryan's day, and considerably easier to figure out.
