I'm firmly in this camp. I bought my first custom steel frame in 1982 for maybe 200 pounds and built it up to suit my specific needs. Now that I'm older and knees are going away, I scored a used Serrotta Legend Ti from a reputable vendor with all the gears that I need for my weekend rides, for less than a quarter of what it must have cost new. Those who have truly disposable income - go for new. Me, I stick with value.
