They are wrapped in javascript (why, I have no idea).

Your devs are loading up waaaaay too many 3rd party script libraries (bikeforums, google, cloudfare, schema.org, and a dozen others).

Put senior devs on the job. Clean up the codebase. More isn't better. It's a mess right now. This is a relatively simple website that has way to much going on. Adding more is simply one more thing that can (and will, eventually) break.
