Probably because the UK rock artist at that time were so heavily by American blues music and musicians. I'll take the UK

#1 any day. Johnny Ray in the UK and Elvis in the US (Love Me Tender,) I never was, or will I ever be an Elvis fan. Johnny Ray is always welcome listening for me, though.
