It was exactly as you described--driver focused his attention to the left of him on the traffic. Cyclist coming from the right of him on the bike lane. We have protected lanes that are actually designed for contraflow. They aren’t wider than normal lanes so the bicycle lane in each direction is only 4’ to 5’ wide. I wouldn’t ride one contraflow to traffic for love nor money! It’s a really, really, really dumb idea.
