I've got Nano 700c x 40 on one bike - I do love them. My other bike has Teravail Rutlands and I
really love these tires. To me they are a great all-rounder, do-anything tire. They might not look like it but they roll fine on pavement, not unlike how the Nanos feel with that center tread. And they handle everything offroad I can throw at them. In 29 they are 2.2, not sure if you can squeeze those in, but great tires IMHO.
