It’s a challenge to find a balance between what’s satisfying for a musician to play and what’s satisfying for a non-musician to listen to. Successful progressive bands like Rush (to name only one) do a good job at finding compromise, but a big chunk of their fan base are also musicians. Since music became digitized there’s a lot more supply than demand for all types and genres.
Percussion music isn’t only enjoyable if profitable or marketable.
