Bicycles have literally always been expensive. The expense of racing bicycles and the trickle down of technology has always been a part of the reason bicycles have been made cheaper for the ‘common man’. Exact same thing with the history of the motorcar. That’s capitalism. That’s why the common man laughed their asses off at the absurdity of ‘penny farthing’ riders, and wealthy people laughed at safety-cyclists from the seats of their motorcars.
