More details: The 1985 Schwinn Traveler is from an auction at the bike co-op. It's in rough cosmetic shape, but good structural condition. It claims double butted 4130 tubes.

Bendix Red Band has been in my bin since my last SS bike, and I strung it up onto an old Nashbar 27x1 rim. I'm not 100% satisfied with it, and might try a Shimano based on your advice. But with the front brake, it stops the bike.

The rest of the parts are from the co-op, a second hand bike shop, or my bins. I treated myself to a new chain and handlebar.

The blue thing is my sag bag, made from a blue jean leg, mounted with an old toe strap and a couple pieces cut from PVC tubing.

Gearing is 46:19, and total weight is 22 pounds.

The Brilando clips are a Schwinn exclusive -- I transferred them to my good wheel.
Looks like it would be a super comfortable ride. I love the 1985 Schwinn paint / decal color combo too
