I don’t mean to get all philosophical on you, but emotions are not irrational. They’re the most elementary form of rationality we have. You can have rational fears. The term “phobia” exists to describe irrational fears.

You can have bad responses to fear. Slamming on the brakes, unclipping, going off the road are all bad responses. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t let fear guide you. That’s your body trying to protect itself from a very real threat. A good response would be to just... get on the brakes hard and early.
