FWIW, if you don’t like the mushy feel of SRAM brakes, you might try Shimano SLX or better brakes. One thing I don’t like about SRAM brakes is the amount of modulation. They always feel mushy to me, compared to Shimano brakes.
Yeah, I am coming from Shimano XT brakes on my last bike (more than a decade old) and I really liked them. If the larger rotor doesn't help, I am going to go Shimano.
