I've been rediscovering my '02 Mercian Vincitore; Monday night I swapped out the 18T fixed cog I use for dirt roads for a gently-used White Industries Dos Eno 17/19T freewheel. Yesterday I rode laps around the neighborhood before work to get the feel of it. Today I ventured forth and rode out to scenic Hodges, South Carolina and back home before breakfast and work. These are the first rides I've done using a freewheel on this bike since I assembled it in 2003. I like the 67-in gear and coasting, and it's nice to know I have a 60-in bail-out gear handy, but I think I'll flip it back over to the usual 16T fixed cog for my normal 70-in gear for regular use.
Pix taken this morning at 6:19 - and someone has gone to a lot of trouble to renovate what had been a crumbling cluster of under-used or flat-out crumbling and abandoned storefronts.
