I think this contention is valid in at least one respect: They're primarily used by older people, and since they've become so popular, there are a fair number on the used market; and the future market seems assured too. Ex-smokers? maybe around you; but what I see is any older people (mostly guys) who haven't ridden in 50 years and want comfort without having to worry about balance. I have one that I bought used and that's been a work-in-progress for several years. Maybe this year will be the year I put it on the road!
