Well, I did something doubly stupid today. It's a sad commentary on "progress," but it's no longer safe to run in my neighborhood. When I was running 3-4 years ago there was minimal traffic. Because of development and traffic, I have had too many close calls with cars. I spoke with a neighbor who is a serious runner and he has totally stopped running on the roads nearby. My road is actually quiet but running up and down the same street (1/4 mile long) is kinda boring after a few repeats.
So I got in the car, drove a mile to MUP, and did a run. Drove home.
Doubly stupid? Stupid squared?? I probably should just ride my bike there but riding bike in running shoes seems even dumber.
I feel your pain. Sad.
I must admit I have mixed feelings regarding my absence from cycling the last couple of years. I was ill, for sure, but there was also a healthy level of reluctance to put myself in harm's way by riding on the roads. People are just too distracted when driving now days.
