If you soak a frame in a oxalic bath (or whatever your choice of chemical), the exterior can be wiped off. BUT, what happens to the interior of the frame? In theory, the chemical you use would coat the inside of the frame; you would never be able to get to it to clean it off.....Is this not an issue?
Whenever I've used oxalic acid, I've followed up with a bath in a baking soda/water solution to neutralize the acid on both the part and the acid solution prior to pouring it in the drain.
