I have purchased three bikes in the past couple of years. One direct and two from an LBS. I would recommend (my opinion) buying a FS mountain bike from a shop that can service and stand behind the product. Being a FS, I would expect that you most likely will be riding hard on trails putting it through the paces. Adjustments, tuning and part replacement is part of mountain biking. All the more reason for dealing with a LBS.
