I worked in the cafeteria at the Cold Spring Harbor Lab one summer (right across the harbor from your bike, right?).
The staff used to get rowdy, and one night, another guy and I were swinging one of the girls, about to pitch her off the sea wall out into the water. Then I said "Wait a second..." and I looked out and noticed that it was low tide -- no water. I still have nightmares about what would have happened if we hadn't stopped.
