The glaring irony is that to spare Jackson unnecessary hits they bring in none other than RG3.
As a runner, and I'm thinking specifically on the option, you're not afforded the same rules protection as a passer, are you? In HS, when we played teams that ran the option, my D coach always told DEs that our job was to crush the QB, whether or not they tossed the ball off, so as to encourage the QB to toss the ball earlier and earlier, essentially turning the option in to a pitch to the RB. If NFL QB "runners" are similarly fair game, someone's gonna try teeing him up even after the ball leaves his hands.
