If you race a lot you will eventually end up in a crash and it made removing the bandages a lot less painful. No hair to stick to the scabs or to the adhesive.
Another reason given is that injuries can be less severe because there is no hair to get pulled out when you are sliding along the ground.
I am permanently on blood thinners, so I can use any advantage in the event of a crash.
