The 6 motors featured in the above article are all OEM designs, the Italian Bianchi Central Motor Unit is I think that company's first in-house design. Bianchi's Lif-E line of ebikes announced this year are all over the place with 17 models, at least 4 different mid-drive, and 2 geared hub, motor systems, and the Bianchi mid-drive is on their T-Tronik e-MTB and Long Island step-through city bike. Of the other 5 motors described in the article, the French Kervelo Quartz system is an interesting design with the motor in the downtube connected to a 4, 6, or 12 speed planetary gearbox in the bottom bracket, making a lightweight (<9lb) mid-drive for a clean looking bike.

For a DIY mid-drive I also like the look of the Revel, good to have another 36v kit motor to compete with the TSDZ2
