You just reminded me of a incident a few years ago. I was on tour and riding through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area when I came upon a fawn at the edge of the road. It laid down flat on the pavement like a pancake. Mom came out of the woods and stood over it to protect it. I really wanted to take a photo, but I was so worried that they would get hit by a car that I kept moving to remove the threat.
