mechanics of creative fabrication may not be your strong suit..
so then people hire out the installation, to the shop that sells the parts.
put planet bike recumbent mudguards on my bike friday
[ that was a source of a 20" pair they sold]
parts:
alloy strips 3/4"x1/8", pop-rivets,
and struts from other mudguards .
