Haack's was located "way out" on E. Washington Ave. At the time, it would've been pretty close to the edge of town. It was still a Schwinn shop until about 12 years ago. Then Williamson Bicycle Works (which had already been off Williamson St. for many years) opened a new location there. Williamson's owner Del has since retired, so now the store sits empty.
I'm guessing that bike made its way to Texas not long after its purchase here. Otherwise, between the compound ravages of midwest winters and student population treatment of "campus bikes", it would most likely not look that good. The grips, the "S" saddle, the pedal blocks, wow, it's something of a time capsule.
The thrift store lady said both bikes were donated by a couple who bought them new. I have no reason not to believe her.
