We did a purge, when we moved to the Actual North. There was still a lot of stuff to move.
My Mom and Dad managed to avoid the necessity of a purge, because my sister wanted to buy their house to retire to, so they cut a deal whereby she bought it from them and they got to live in it as long as they were able, which for both of them was till the very end. And as Dad said, the bonus was not having to clean it up to sell!
