Not sure if that quote was verbatim. It was provided to me by the late Bill Vetter of Washington DC and Greensboro Bend VT. He told me that was WBH's reply when asked "why don't you use a fancy head badge?"

Bill was a close friend of both me as a teenager and Mr Hurlow. He was Hurlow's informal "agent" in the US in the '60s. Bill also built touring frames during his retirement years in VT.

Agreed, Hurlow's statement was in his lugs. An intricate head badge would have been redundant and would have competed with the art work already there. Mine after a re-paint begging for its decal! ...
