Some benefit to thru axle wheels even before you get a thru axle fork. Instead of just converting the front to 5mm QR
you can convert it to 9mm axel and it will still fit the standard 100mm fork dropouts but will be stiffer.

Noticed after getting fatter grippier tires and better brakes my QR fork would flex under heavy breaking (wheel would
twist a little) adapted the front hub from 15mm thru to 9mm and it seems to have eliminated the flex and twist.

I'm sure not as good as a thru axel fork but a massive improvement that only cost about $35

Same can probably be done to the rear dropouts/hub, I did not feel I needed it on my frame so I did not bother.
