Yes, bars are crowded these days, and we need more effort put into accessory mounts at the OE level, and maker sites like the one @cyccommute linked above, Shapeways, point the way. Lots of possibilites exist, especially with internal routing where the cables are more out of the way.

Specialized has a neat steerer tube spacer mount for their Stix lights, but it’s a proprietary design with very limited expansion potential. That’s just one example among several from manufacturers, but we need more, IMO.
