Keeping in mind, always, that the vast majority of Yucatecans and even fewer Belizeans spent no time in a car as kids, and likely none at all before they found themselves behind the wheel. After a few miles in Belize, I came to expect a car in my lane when coming out of a blind curve, or cresting a hill. I gives meaning to 'defensive driving'.
Quintana Roo, home state of Cancun, was still listed as a barely inhabited territory in 1975.
