I aspired to be a professional photographer from about 6th grade on. I shot medium format exclusively. In the summer of 1973 between my Junior and Senior years in high school my identify was bounded by photography, bicycles, the Gratefuul Dead and messing around with a Univac 1108 mainframe that I had access to through school. That summer I worked in a textile mill in upstate NY saving money for a proper racing bicycle (Zeus Pro, baby) and a barely used Hasselblad 1000F that was about as old as I was. Here's a 1974 selfie:

That camera was stolen in 1975 or 76, and I replaced it in 1978. By then I had changed course and was an art director in print and direct marketing. I still have the second Hasselblad and my Minolta Autocord TLR from BITD. Just to add to the fun my wife brought a 4x5 view camera, a Hasselblad 500c and a handful of Nikons to our union. We have a few others that really weren't working cameras for us: a Zeiss, an Argus and other less notable boxes. Neither of us shoot film any longer, and the truth is I use my iPhone almost exclusively.
