My 3 Bromptons has chips in all the usual places - notably where the hinges/clamps meet. First thing I always do is paste clear helicopter tape on the frame/stem/triangle where the cables are likely to rub against.

I certainly don't mistreat my Bromptons but unless you're ridiculously (to the point of paranoia) careful and knowledgeable, amassing chips and scratches are unavoidable in my experience. Call them "battle scars" or "adding character" if it makes you feel better.
