Pardon my ignorance, but what's the professed advantage of thru axels anyway?
So hard to keep track of all the BS "advances" in cycling lately. 
The others can chime in, but my primitive understanding is that if you are running disc brakes (FUTURE!) the thru axles are much more rigid and able to handle the forces that are placed on the axle compared to a traditional QR based axle.
