According to the park website, all trail shelters are closed. We hiked past the West Mountain shelter which was not taped off or posted as closed in any way. We camped, uhhh, "nearby", and could see West Mountain from our spot, and there was a party of at least 2 at the shelter overnight judging from headlamps visible with binoculars.
Crappy phone pic looking west from where someone sometime may have camped. West Mountain is at the right side of the frame, you might be able to pick out a pinpoint of light at the shelter. Bright "star" visible is Venus.
