When I first came to Peoria, I was surprised to see so many little back roads that were paved and very suitable for cycling.
I grew up in eastern Iowa, and only the larger country roads were paved. The smaller roads were all gravel, resulting in a heavy coating of dust on the cars and trucks using the road (not to mention the washboard sections, etc.). By comparison, this section of Illinois is cycling heaven!
