Sachs-Huret derailleur

okay, now that we've beat the hacksaw conundrum into the ground, I have a serious and imminent question regarding a 1984 Peugeot mixie (P-17?) I have on the new Parks repair stand. to wit: the rear derailleur is a Sachs-Huret. I couldn't find a model number on it, just "made in France & 0984.

there are two numbers stamped on the rear 24 & 28. there are two tabs on the derailleur cage to catch the spring.

Q: how do I know which tab to use?

the Rigida rims take 27" tires. the low gear on the freewheel is 12 teeth. I am not seeing anything to correlate.

any help gratefully accepted! thanks
