I think that's a budding vinyard.
That was on the Solvang Double route to SLO. I volunteered SAG one year that it rained, and oh boy ... was this a place of suffering. Heavy wind, rain, and NO shoulder. The rain washed a lot of debris onto the road and there were tons of flats. I'll never forget changing someone's tube. When I went to pump the tire up, all the water that had settled in between the tire and the tube came squirting out through the holes in the tire!
Here's one from the end of the High Sierra Fall Century. As usual, we were bringing up the rear, and were rolling back near sundown. Long shadows in the Long Valley. If you look close, you can see a cyclist wearing a day-glo jersey in the distance.
