Question Need help in fitting grips with bar-ends.

Firstly, the only reason I am posting this here is because I have a hybrid, so this section seems somewhat appropriate, not that the question even matters with the type of bike

Anyway, The handlebars in question are riser and the shifters are revo, so you can guess, there is barely any space to fit anything, as right after the shifters there is the brake lever then the bend in the bar thus making it impossible to push the shifter in any further. I just got these bar-ends with grips,

Problem is the grips with bar-ends are about 5 inch in length, while the remaining space on the bar is 3 inch

So... Do I run the chance of breaking the bar-ends if I leave the last 2 inches without any support of the aluminum bar?

The other theoretical option I can think of is to cut off the last 1.5 inch with a very hot knife maybe? Its rather strong very thick plastic under the rubber, so I am hoping for a hot knife to do the trick, but need to know if this is even an option I should consider?

And finally, hit me with suggestions
