Until this thread I never realized kudos count was a measure of anything of interest to anyone. I always thought Strava was about the leaderboard and nothing else.
I also 'never' (well I have once or twice in five years) get kudos from strangers - didn't realize it was a thing. Only from those who are following me or were noted by Strava as 'rode with'
As noted earlier I just kudos everything in my current feed at the time I open it, that includes occasionally those accidental '0.0' miles rides people sometimes post and don't delete.
