Did my first centuary after about 6 months of riding. Was actually pretty easy since the route was relatively flat. Started in Anaheim to corona then doubled back towards Huntington beach, lots of protesters that day, then onto long beach to pose with the queen as in the queen mary. Headed back down to balboa which was a terrible idea with the nonexistent bike lanes, in fact a car hit one of our buddy and just casually took of with a huge dent in his hood. Friend was fine, 260lbs absorbed impact like nothing, car had it worst. Finished in Anaheim, a grand total of 110 miles. Will try for Anaheim to San Diego in 2 weeks. Just a bit concerned about potentially having to ride the freeway...yikes!
nice! well done!

you may be happier taking either the amtrak or metrolink from orange county (if that's where you're based) to oceanside, then riding south to dtown san diego along the coast and back, then taking the train
from oceanside back to orange county. it's about 90 miles rt riding but you can do a "side trip" or two if you want to stretch it into a century. do not recommend riding the 5 fwy north or south
(having done both multiple times) unless absolutely necessary. with camp pendleton on lockdown, it's just better to bypass that area altogether. you're not missing much by doing so.
