There have been some threaded axles which have had their threaded ends turned down, not many but they do exist.
What does interest me is the photos of your axle and the worn down spots of threading. Looks to me that the axle, and not the cones or intended bearing surfaces, have been acting as the bearing. Is this correct? Andy
