I think some of the outerwear might be justified, but I'm with you on the basics. A pair of "messenger" shorts at jcpenny for 20 bucks seem on par with most specialized knickers I've seen.
I do, however, own a jacket from Nau that was more than I'd normally pay, but it is amazing both visually and practically.
