Also check out companies like Ex Officio and Patagonia for lightweight summer pants. I like the idea that someone mentioned of just simply putting a sturdy cover of some kind over your pedal when you need to walk up stairs and such. Probably way cheaper than a pair of pants, and you can wear what you want.
