No experience. But for fatting around wider is better if your frame fits it.

Unless you do a 29+ wheel. Rolling resistance on pavement savings would be near zero between 4.4 and 4.8.

Note those are nominal sizes. Actual difference may be less or more than 0.4. Probably less on the same rim.

My bike came with 4.8. I wouldn't go smaller just for fear of more pedal strikes.
