Lucky...maybe, or maybe you haven't lived in the right places!
I've lived in quite a few wild weather places, and am quite familiar with the cold front drop.
If it even looks like there's one coming on, I pack my bag full of gear (and usually end up missing it, and hence carrying a bunch of stuff around for no reason.)
