In the spirit of the "Double or Triple" thread, I thought it would be interesting to see what sort of gearing that people are riding around with these days. It might also be appropriate to declare what KIND of riding you do, so as to lend some context into the choice - and range - of gears you have.

For me, I'm a double guy, and the bike that I was just given - a an old, ugly bike - has a 52-42, which is pretty typical of what I've done most of my road riding on. My very first "serious" road bike, however, had a 54-45 (with a large cog of only 23); I was quite a hill climber.

Today, however, I'm riding 52-42, with a freewheel hub (i.e. not a cassette) that's a 13-15-17-19-21-24 (I think). I do mostly faster-paced (for me) training type rides.

What about you?
