Many of the details of the path on the bridge were proposed by Mark Bixby. He passed away in a plane crash in 2011. First time I rode the NYR Day bunch ride in 2010 he was leading the ride. With hundreds of riders present he was a strong leader.
I noticed him several times on Wed. mornings when he was returning from Velo Allegro rides.
Guy was unforgettable and was all the best of Socal riding.

Mark Bixby being the impetus behind bike lanes on the bridge isn’t relevant to whether it’s worth it to ride a bike on Terminal Island or not.
But I guess he was good at getting his way? Just because you can delay the building of a bridge with a fight over bike lanes, doesn’t mean you should. Just because you can stuff 3 more friends into a King Air, doesn’t mean you should.
Maybe those 2 ideas are related?
